Plan A, co-developed by Hannover 96 Academy, KGS Hemmingen and TWIN, is a strategic dual career approach to player development in high-level football that receives significant attention beyond club and country borders.
In many high-performance environments, education is treated merely as a safety net—a plan B in case a sporting career falters. The Hannover model flips this narrative: here, the dual career is “Plan A”, a core framework that embeds personal and academic growth directly into the athletic blueprint. With TWIN providing strategic guidance since 2021, this model fosters a culture of responsibility, ensuring the development of the individual keeps pace with the evolution of the player.
International validation
The impact of this approach, an integral component of the club’s Der 96-Weg master plan, is already being felt at the highest levels. Following a successful presentation to the German Football Association in 2025, the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) recently visited Hannover as part of their European Best Practices study, EDU-DC. Facilitated by TWIN, this two-day-exchange provided a platform to share developmental philosophies and showcase the 96 Skills curriculum—a pioneering subject designed to equip young talents with the transition-readiness required for professional life; on and off the football pitch.
Through such international collaboration, we continue to demonstrate that prioritizing the Plan A philosophy is not just an educational necessity, but a competitive advantage in modern football.
