NOC*NSF serves as the overarching Dutch body for sports, encompassing 77 National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and 17 associated organizations, representing over 24,000 sports clubs, and engaging 5.2 million individuals involved in sports. In their Dutch Sport’s Strategic Plan 2032, the Netherlands aspire to emerge as the “sportiest country in the world”.
Linked, the NOC*NSF champions Dutch high-performance sport through its 8-year national “Topsportstrategie.” This comprehensive plan is the backbone of the nation’s commitment to nurturing elite athletes, supporting both their sporting ambitions and their careers outside of sport.
Topsportstrategie 2032: From strategy to action
Over the past decade, the Netherlands has witnessed significant expansion in dual career support, exemplarily via TeamNL@work), and intra-sectoral networks such as EVOT (secondary education) or FLOT (higher education). These advancements have built a robust national support ecosystem which Dutch sports circles are committed to continuously enhancing.
Following our successful prior engagements (including our TWIN Master Class for TeamNL and keynote at the Dutch National Sports Centre), the NOC*NSF called on TWIN to advise on the future of this vital domain with respect to the development of the national Topsportstrategie 2032.
TWIN Master Class for TeamNL
TWIN delivered comprehensive consulting that strategically positioned dual career as a key lever within the national sport agenda. This move elevated dual career services beyond just infrastructure, establishing holistic athlete support as a central principle for high-performance, as well as for integrity and social value. This ensures athletic, educational, and personal development are interconnected.
To foster this vision becoming reality, we delivered a series of virtual sparring sessions and on-site consulting for the Topsportstrategie 2032. This included developing a tailored communication toolkit for dual career, and providing analytical guidance to optimize the national higher education support scheme (FLOT).
In summary: We helped transform dual career and holistic athlete support into a structural strategic asset. This approach prepares the Dutch elite sports system for the future, fostering a culture of high-performance alongside unparalleled athlete well-being and integrity.
