This week, the European Handball Federation (EHF) and TWIN hosted an international online session tackling the critical dual career challenge: balancing an elite sporting career with academic studies.

These “Ambassador Sessions,” part of the EHF’s Respect Your Talent programme, are virtual Q&A events that connect the world’s top handball stars with promising young players. The live format encourages participants to engage openly and ask personal questions about various career and life topics.

Champions discuss life beyond the court

The session was moderated by TWIN CEO and EHF Expert for Dual Career Wolfgang Stockinger who guided the discussion featuring two bona fide legends and long-time Respect Your Talent Ambassadors: Andrea Lekic and Carmen Martin, both university graduates.

Andrea Lekic, former Serbian centre back, Champions League Winner and IHF World Player of the Year, shared the wisdom gained from her extensive career. She stressed the importance of creating a systematic “dual career habit” to optimize one’s approach.

Spanish Carmen Martin, another Champions League winner and Olympic bronze medalist, credited her dual career with substantially affecting her play, summarizing the feeling of that impact as “liberation.”

The Ambassador Sessions will continue with more events before the end of the year. For more information on Respect Your Talent, visit the European Handball Federation website, or download the Respect Your Talent App (App Store, Google Play Store).
